Press Release for Sedona Red Rock News by Rachel Polen
A Sedona video biography company, Our Family Legacy Video, believes it has a way for you to “outlive your life.” How? By creating an enduring video recording of what you want to share most for those you leave behind. It enables you to tell your story, as only you can, in your own special way.
We all have a story to tell, the unique story of our life and family. Most people stories fade into selective memories and dim recollections. Memories pale like old snapshots, and so much gets lost in translation over time. The accurate story or record can be obscured or largely forgotten.
We all want to belong and have meaning, purpose, or make a difference in life. As we grow older, we usually examine our lives and wonder if we have made a real or lasting difference, and if our descendants will know who we are.
Our Family Legacy Video biographers want people to think about, "What do you really want your loved ones to know and remember? How many lives and hearts will you really touch in your lifetime?"
Patricia Schnebly (granddaughter of Sedona Schnebly of the founding family of Sedona) asked these questions. She found new answers when she met a professional video biographer (ourfamilylegacyvideo.com) to accurately record her family’s stories. “I’m so glad I did it! It's the perfect gift for all my future generations - an extraordinary and valuable legacy keepsake.”
You do not have to be a historical figure or famous to be filmed, or written about, to give insight into who you are, and would like to be. Everyday people do this too.
Reflecting on your life and recording your thoughts and feelings can be transformative and redemptive. If every person left a legacy recorded for all time, it could create a new culture of giving, and an understanding of the value of every life.
Some other benefits Our Family Legacy Video clients report are: a greater sense of meaning and purpose to their life; being truly seen and heard; and a peace from the past, and more presence in the moment.
Sometimes Our Family Legacy Video gets asked, "What if you don't have any descendants?" Their answer is, "Legacy can be a larger idea than just something for your family. You still have a legacy to leave for your loved ones; and for all the family of humanity. You can make a quality video and post it online to YouTube, or any of a number of other sites, or file it with your local library, genealogy society, church, or the Library of Congress."
They add, "Imagine your life and story taking on a new meaning, extending your life's purpose to educate, uplift, and inspire the hearts and minds of others - ultimately making this world a little better place." For more information, see www.ourfamilylegacyvideo.com
Once we reach 50 plus, we start to think about our lives, what we've done, and have we made a difference? When the founders of Our Family Legacy Video began to think about their lineage, and talk about who did what, where they came from, and wanted to document their roots, they came to understand that they really knew very little about the family. Sure, they had memories of their own childhoods, but little else about the family. They knew their grandparents came from the "old country," but when, and how, and where did they settle, and what did they do for a living?
Memories of childhood experiences, like watching the grandparents as they made home made meals, and listened to grandpa play the violin. They vaguely recalled that he was a musician. But where did he play, how often and with whom? Memories of their own parents. They recalled that Dad was a laundry man, and Mom worked in some lab processing what?
Where did they go to school? Did they finish high school, and did any of their siblings, or them even go on to college? Memories of relations. Wasn't Uncle Ben a police sergeant? Did he distinguish himself in service to the city of Chicago? Or was he in the military? Did he serve in the Second World War?
So then, we begin to understand about memories and legacies, and how the memories are necessary to create and record the legacies. Our Family Legacy Video is located in Sedona and they can help you do just this - create a professional video DVD, audio recording, and/or a written biography, or photo book. Many people have found it to be a timeless and valuable gift for themselves and loved ones.
Several times, I've spoken to people who feel that they are too old, and that they can do nothing now that they are old, in order to create a legacy.
I've heard them say that once they reach 80, they couldn't possibly do anything worthwhile.’ HMMM? Really?
Well, Herman Wouk, the writer just had his 100th birthday a short while ago, ....just had another one of his magnificent novels released, (remember the Caine Mutiny? - just one of his spellbinding books) and has started writing his next novel. Yes, true enough, he has been a famous author for his life. And you, have been living your life, thus creating your own special legacy.
Makes this thing about being "too old" a rather lame excuse.
You are living, and no matter what your age, you can still record the best and the worst things you have done in your life. All that you've done is so important. That's being your authentic self, because people will remember , and that will be a blessing for years to come.
I've had the great honor of talking to a number of people who want to know just that - what is my legacy?
Well, your legacy can be many things, and that is entirely up to you to determine, but I am going to try to help you figure that out in my coming blogs, which will appear here. You see, there are many-
Some legacies might be tangible items created by an individual that will tell the story of their life. Another could be character traits, events of all sorts that will tell the story of a life well lived, the challenges they faced and overcame. It could be the story of your talents, how you lived your life using them that will serve your family with honor. Perhaps your story will encourage many people, and again, it may just be the story that will impact your life, and cause your family to remember you with glowing pride. Are you a writer, singer, musician, artist of any sort?
Do you want to leave something that will influence how you will be remembered by your great grandchildren? If so, then join me and see my occasional posts. You have lived an interesting, and perhaps enviable life and done many things - that you may have forgotten. Let's get you to kick-start your memory. Recall how privileged you, and we, are to experience this thing called "life," - just to be alive.
For now, give this some thought, then come back, and let me share the stories of so many others.
